We continue to have a good experience being customers of 118group. We hired them to create a site that served a functional purpose and they were able to understand exactly what we were looking for. They put together a site that looks very nice, works well and is still very simple and functional for the end user. We were able to use their tools for sharing feedback from multiple people in our organization, making the communication easy for pointing out changes we wanted to make and ask questions. We also had several meetings to explain our setup and brainstorm ways to keep our systems in place. They put in a lot of time with trial and error to get us to where we wanted to be. They continue to work with us to fine-tune the site and are also open to allowing us to administer the site while still having them provide support and development.

When looking for a new website, we interviewed 3 web design companies--all recommended by trusted colleagues whose opinions we valued. Right from our first zoom meeting with Dylan at 118Group, we were impressed by the process and time he spent learning about what we wanted. The other 2 firms were most definitely capable and seemed to get a sense of what we wanted (we met with all 3 via zoom). Dylan requested additional zoom calls to dive deeper into our expectations and needs and to discuss what would happen throughout the process. So right away, 118Group stood out from the other vendors who sent us what I consider very "generic" proposals (after one zoom meeting). It was also clear, based on the other proposals, that we would be doing a fairly heavy lift in terms of content (more than just adding photos and support materials to a shared drive). We felt strongly that we did not want our site to look like all of the other sites created by the other vendors (be sure to look at the portfolios of each of the vendors you're considering--it was kind of shocking how much the websites they created for other small nonprofits looked like templates).
We are a small nonprofit with 2 staff members. I do the updates to the website; as executive director, I don’t have a lot of free time to do that. Long story short, the 118Group proposal provided 3 options for each of the service categories. We met by zoom to review each (it was like having a chef walk you through a menu). They provided recommendations for each category and took the time to explain the other options. We ended up choosing 2 areas where we felt the upgrade would be worth the investment. At first I thought that many meetings PRIOR to choosing 118Group was a bit excessive but looking back, I realized this was Dylan getting to know us, our interests, our needs, and our work style.
As we went along, the process was very straightforward, but by no means generic. They had us fill out some funny questionnaire/quizzes that didn't seem relevant (but were, of course!) and we had homework to complete--things like adding good, recent photos to a shared drive folder, seeking testimonials from our constituent groups, gathering up accolades/awards, etc. Each meeting we had with Dylan had a purpose. The one that really helped us think about priorities for our site was a mapping exercise that we went through together.
We also asked 118Group to provide us with an updated look--logo, colors, fonts, etc. They did a fantastic job! We even had them create special versions of our logo for our two recurring annual events that will help brand them visually.
Worth noting: 118Group was the most expensive of the three vendors we interviewed, but I am 100% certain that we received 400% more for the money. There is no question the work they do is outstanding and the customer service is phenomenal. As I said, we even added and upgraded some options because we knew that investing at this stage would save money and TIME in the long run. Important for a 2-person team!
Another helpful thing about 118Group is their knowledge of other products/apps that can be tied in behind the scenes to make information management and sharing more efficient. We ended up subscribing to GiveButter, an online payment system that can handle ticketing for events, fundraising campaigns, etc. We used it for our annual appeal last month and really liked how easy it was to use behind the scenes and, more importantly, for the donors. We are also hoping to transition from Constant Contact to GiveButter for our e-newsletters/e-marketing platform and possibly even our database (we currently use Little Green Light).
Dylan and his team are super responsive and truly invested in our happiness as customers. I've been involved with a number of website designs/updates over my career and I have never experienced a team that is so in tune with a client's needs/wants as they have been. I highly recommend 118Group!
