Russell Wildlife Area has some of Mahaska County's most scenic wilderness. It has prairie, forest, ponds, and streams. It even has a suspension bridge.

This county park offers a wide range of activities including: fishing, hunting, shooting, hiking, bird watching, cross-country skiing, snow shoeing, fossil hunting, boating, and picnicking.

The gun range is horrible. The up keep on it is terrible. Wish they would fix it up. I like going out there to shoot. Not handicap accessible. If they fixed it up it would be a nice place to shoot
