Stopped by last weekend and enjoyed the visit. Tons of maps of the area, etc. and Joe was super knowledgeable, friendly, and helpful. Some awesome pictures of the dam under construction. Great observation deck in the shade out back.

If you visiting the Buchanan dam for first time I would recommend visiting the information center while on way.
Visitor center is located on the main road very next to Buchanan dam. The view of the dam is so good from the information center.
Staff is very friendly and courteous to provide information about the dam and the blue bonnet season coming up in spring. Information chamber has lot of maps about Inks lake state park, longhorn cavern, burnet and nearby areas. It has lot of souvenirs and gifts to be collected as well. Restroom inside the chamber is clean.

What a fun place to visit! I stopped by for just a local map and was blown away by the wealth of information here. They have brochures and information about ALL the central Texas hot spots. Wineries, fishing, water activities, State Parks, shopping, YOU NAME IT. I met "Joe", the new executive director who was fun to talk to and had a wealth of information. What a gem! Y'all stop by!

We stumbled upon this gem while out on one of our weekly road trips in the Texas Hill Country. The two gentlemen (volunteers?) were both very congenial and supplied us with the information we needed. While there, we had a picnic on the lovely deck behind the building that had a nice view and very clean, modern picnic tables. They had a selection of cold soft drinks for sale that we availed ourselves of (where else can you buy a drink for a buck?). Thank you gents for your true Texas friendliness; we shall return to say hello next time we pass your way. Vivian and Carla

What a great visitor’s center! Small, but packed full of so much you might want or need to make your visit to the area a great experience! Friendly and helpful, I found what I needed and even found out there were bonus goodies to see and buy! Loves the artwork available too! Thanks for the convenience and great experience!

Incredible view from the visitors center. Mr Woolsey was very kind and took time to explain the history and facts about the dam and the area. He even suggested we come back in the fall and winter to see the bald eagles nesting.

Lake Buchanan's Visitor Center serves travelers with Texas and Hill Country maps and brochures, with information on recreational opportunities such as fishing tournaments, and boating, with information on educational tours, and area history. Good view of the dam from the outdoor deck.
Director, Joe Woolsey, is a font of knowledge on the dam and its impact on the creation of Texas' Highland Lakes Region. The Visitor Center- a must before visiting caverns, river tours, eagle sightings, wildflower trails, and other attractions.
