What a joke of a paper. It is barely a newspaper with a Liberal editor, Liberal wife & Liberal agenda that supports the city machine without fail. Too busy covering Liberal garbage to send reporter to support event at VFW. Complete disrespect. Home delivered fish wrap or bird cage lining. I’m done with them once & for all. Canceling subscription after nearly 25+ years.

They always come through when we're in a tight spot. Whenever the Humane Society is on the brink of running out of newspapers for lining our kennels, they've been our saving grace—donating entire pallets that last us a week or even two. Trust me, we go through newspapers like a shredder. It's not just newspapers; we also burn through wash rags, towels, and washing machines like there's no tomorrow. Operating at 140% capacity year-round has become our new normal, slimo no surprise we consume supplies like a wildfire.

Running a "No Kill" shelter isn't just about goodwill and warm feelings; it's a never ending endurance race for all involved with 49 that needs tangible support. If you're inspired by the generosity of The Daily News, as they well deserve, consider donating supplies or your time or better yet, come meet one of the nearly 70 large dogs waiting for a forever home.

Drop my name when you visit, and I'll make sure you get at least 50% off your visit if you adopt and a month's supply of food. Come be a part of our mission; they would love to have you and we will too.

Went to read a article they posted. Website stated I would need to login or register for an account in order to read.

I registered a account in order to read article, and now they want me to pay. It would make sense to advise a potential customer that we will make you pay for the service, prior making them sign up and collect personal information. Seems like a way to fish for peoples personal inforamtion, and more of a bait and switch tactic.

The Daily News is a Galveston jewel and a Galveston pride. Its history is closely associated with the rich history of the City of Galveston itself. The paper was first published April 11, 1842, making it the oldest newspaper in Texas. It currently serves as the newspaper of record for the City of Galveston as well as Galveston County.

During the Civil War, the Daily News was briefly published from outside of Galveston because Galveston was occupied by Union forces, but by 1866, it had returned to the Island city.

Alfred Horatio Belo, joined the staff in 1865 and purchased the paper in 1875. By 1923, William Lewis Moody, Jr., a prominent banker and insurance man purchased the paper from Belo. In 1963 the Moody Foundation sold the the paper to William P. Hobby, and in June 1967 Galveston Newspapers Inc., purchased the Daily News.

The paper has won first place awards from the Associated Press and the Texas Press Association in editorial writing, headline writing and general excellence, as well as breaking news articles. The Daily News is indispensable for any engaged resident of the County of Galveston.
