Hoonah was a tough town. This is a locals town not built or really wanting tourists. You could definitely feel that some folks would rather not have you there, while other places were pushing hard to make a buck. I would recommend skipping Hoonah and Icy Straight when booking a cruise or in the area.

Cool gift shops and a very interesting historical display of the salmon canning process with hands on machinery and canning goods. The fish and chips is the best with fresh catch our the day.

Owned and operated by the harbor department. Call ahead to rates. The front float has no shore power. Hoonah is a great place to visit. Get provisions. Fuel water. The hydraulics shop in town is great.
Fisherman can use the cannery float for free. You should deliver to the cold storage. They have ice and bait.
Restaurants downtown provide decent meals. Prices are higher than you might expect but. It's the way on small town Alaska ,everything costs more than you expect. If you step into huna. Do! You won't regret it.

Few places on Earth can claim pure awesomeness, but this place can. Sherry is the Harbor Master here, and let me tell you, she does an excellent job with this place. There's also plans to build new docks, and the city has been working hard to grow, and keep it's same small-town appeal. I'm happy to say that I was here for a while in the summer of 2015, and it was one of the best summers of my life. Are you looking for a crowd? Then don't come here. It's removed from most places civilized and fairly remote.

Had a great fishing trip with our host and hostess. It was raining but we caught a halibut so it was worth it.
