We had breakfast at the Kingman Cafe and I have to say we were very impressed. The service was excellent. The food was very good and the price was right too. I think we'll make it our go-to place for breakfast from now on.

Cafe is pretty dope. And the airport all be it small. Has a lot of history and has had some movies shot at this location.

This airfield is the storage yard for the major US airlines and their redundant or end of life aircraft. Not surprisingly, the airlines in question don't want adverse publicity and airside access is restricted to authorised personnel. Still, if you are so determined, you can catch a glimpse of the stored aircraft on the east side of the airfield. It is an impressive sight but given the effort to do so, I wouldn't rush to get here.

I attended Kingman AirFest on 20 Oct. 2019. It’s always great to see the World War II that are still airworthy after all these decades, and it was particularly nice to see that “Sentimental Journey” is still around. Ya can’t keep a good gal down!
I knew that the Las Vegas WW2 vehicle collectors would be there, and it was fun to catch up with some of them, because it’s been a while, even though I live in Las Vegas too, and we attend many of the same events.

My first visit to Kingman Airport was about 30 years ago. At that time there were all the Lockheed L1011 from the once famous TWA stored at this place.
Whenever I visited Kingman Airport the staff were so generous allowed me to go and take as many pictures as I wanted from all the stored plane. After the L1011 that got scrapped up there, a lot of Boeing B727 followed from all kind of airlines. A few years later the Boeing B767 of TWA found the same end than the L1011‘s a few years before.
Than came a time with dozends of DC-9‘s and even more B727-200. I remember I counted more than hundred stored civil airliners.
Apart to the stored planes on several visits I took pictures of old DC-4‘s (C-54) that were based there and ready for firefighting.
A few years later I saw hundreds of ex American Eagle Saab SF-340 being stored. Suddenly after 9/11 all airports had to raise their security measures making it more and more dufficult to get ramp access.
Before, I just could go there, introduce myself and explain my hobby but than one had to write in advance, allowing them to do some background checks and even than it was not guaranted they let you out on the ramp at least not by your own. That‘s when I met the good guys from Kingman Airline Services. The manager was so kind he arranged one of his techs do drive me around the entire airport so that I again could picture most of the than around 200 stored planes.
It was when DHL/Astar stored all their DC-8‘s, B727-200 and Airbuses A300/310 there. It was also when Saudi Arabian Airlines placed newly purchased planes more or less direct from the Boeing and Douglas factories into the desert of Kingman Airport. There were B747-400 in the just new introduced color scheme together with several MD80‘s already half scrapped. I don‘t know what was behind that, I assumed that this aircrafts were part of a compensation deal between the Saudis and the US Government, however as they had no use for the planes they sent them to the boneyard.
My last visit were early 2018. I was happy to see some of the DC-8‘s were still in flying condition. Next to the entire DHL/Astar fleet that was still there, they added about 200 regional jets and embraer jets of all kind. It seems like Kingman Airport will also in the future be very attractive for aircraft enthusiasts and spotters though taking pictures may need a little bit more preparations ahead.
