Getting my Iowa license plates were pretty easy. I switched my driver's license to Iowa first at the DOT office then brought it in the paper copy with my out-of-state car registration and the title to my car. I was given new plates right there. I got to pick which month I wanted to renew. I was given a prorated cost based on which month I chose.

My husband went here to register our car that is out of state and his driver’s license is not from Iowa.. we even have a physical address in Iowa but the blonde girl that looks like Adele said that they can’t do it coz the driver’s license is not from Iowa and made faces after my husband turned his back.. so professional!.. so we called other county if they can accept us and told them about what happened and they said they should’ve accept us and just asked for the SSN and it doesn’t matter if whatever state you driver’s license is from. So if you’re new to Marshalltown, Iowa and you need to register your car but you’re DL is not from Iowa, go to Story City county or in Des Moines.. as long as you have a physical address in Iowa they’re going to accept you.
