Our bear safari with Luke was one of the highlights of our Alaska trip. We saw bears on the road, in the trees, and best of all grabbing a salmon out of the river. We were in an eight passenger van that went to many locations during our tour. When a bear was spotted or expected we got out of the van at a safe distance for better viewing. Highly recommend signing up with Luke as opposed to the big bus tours from the cruise ship if you want to see bears. No worries about getting back to the ship on time.

We had such a GREAT time with Luke!!! If you want to “not” spend your time stuffed in a bus like a sardine with a ton of people this is the way to go. Luke is beyond knowledgeable but better yet FUN! We had best time and have met a friend for life. Seeing the bears and the beautiful area of Hoonah was absolutely amazing!!!

Luke was a friendly and adept guide who took us all over Hoonah in search of brown bears. We felt completely safe with him and he certainly delivered! We visited some rivers, went to a lovely beach area, hiked through the woods, picked some berries and ultimately saw two beautiful brown bears. We are so glad we selected Luke and Wild Bear Safari and if you’re hoping to see bears during your visit, you should too.

We recently had the pleasure of joining the Wild Bear Safari in Hoonah, Alaska, and it was an afternoon we will never forget! Luke was incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about the local wildlife, making the experience both educational and thrilling. The highlight of the trip was seeing two brown bears up close—an incredible sight that left us all speechless.
The tour was well-organized, with plenty of time to enjoy the scenery and take photos. Safety was clearly a priority, and I felt comfortable throughout the experience. The small group size allowed for a more intimate and personal adventure, which was much appreciated.
If you're in Hoonah and looking for a unique way to connect with nature, I highly recommend the Wild Bear Safari. It's an experience that will stay with you long after you leave Alaska!

Best day by far, we saw three different bears feeding on salmon. Luke was a pleasure. I highly recommend this tour.

Can’t speak highly enough about this experience. We were looking for a local’s energy and take on the area, Luke did not disappoint! On our tour date, the weather was unexpectedly dry and hot; we were warned that it would be unlikely to see any bears midday in the extreme heat. Luke’s fun loving personality and knowledge of the area alone made the experience more than worthwhile. Time was running short and he persisted with the hopes we would be surprised last minute with a bear greeting and as luck would have it, success! Book the tour, would highly recommend!

Luke was an awesome guide! We landed in Hoonah on a drizzly day and Luke was ready to take us around! The day before they had some awesome sightings so we were excited. Unfortunately, the night before it had down poured so all the normal streams and rivers were RUSHING which excluded quite a few places for us to look. Luke was great and took us around to all the best spots and even out to his favorite hike which was gorgeous! We didn't see any bears but saw lots of signs of bears, it's just the way nature is though! We did stay out past the 3 hours for almost 5 hours searching around. Luke had a lot of good stories and facts and we enjoyed the day a ton. We saw lots of deer and on our way back to the boat even saw a giant pod of whales bubble feeding.
We loved the small size of the tour (much better than those over-packed cruise tours) and we were dropped back off at the port site with PLENTY of time to spare and shop around still. Even without seeing bears (which we tried hard) it was an awesome way to spend our day. Down to earth and just enjoying the beautiful scenery on the island. Please check him out!

Luke is a great guy and does an awesome tour. We were a little early in the season but were able to see one, as well as a deer, and many eagles. Luke worked hard to find us the wild life we were searching for and was great telling us about the area and his love for Alaska. Plus he is just fun to be around. He was very helpful and patient with some people with mobility issues. They pick you up right at the excursion hub…very easy. Thanks, Luke.
