I booked a trip at Yakutat Lodge with a friend in 2008. Our river guide and halibut skipper were very good. But our Coho trip was a disaster as the skipper, Dan Anderson, was a maniac! He has a serious anger management problem, yelling at, degrading, and berating his guests constantly. At times he was so angry that I thought he was going to have a heart attack. Anyone who lost a fish became the focus of his anger tirade. I went on this trip to relax and have a good time fishing, but ended up very stressed and wanting to get off his boat as soon as possible . In fact, getting off his boat was the highlight of my day. I have been on Alaskan trips several times since then and have never had a guide or skipper act even remotely as crazy as him.

This was our first time visiting Yakutat and the Situk, and we had plenty of expectations. Good fishing and good hospitality were key to our trip hopes. I can tell you that Yakutat Lodge was not just good, they were excellent! Fantastic guide services that provided personal best experiences not only in fish but also in personal connections with the guides (Ryan, Mike and Tyson) . The food was far beyond simply consistent in the ordinary meal fare, but the specials went above and beyond anything we could have imagined. Kudos to the chef and all the providers for wonderful meals (Bree, Edward and others) . The wait staff was attentive and enjoyable, not only providing for our meal needs but also enjoying conversations regarding the local area and life in Yakutat. |And then there is the organizing staff and ownership. Cody was fantastic and very personable. He helped to make sure our experience was immensely enjoyable. He was willing to help and address any lodging or logistical concerns we may have encountered. He was such a blessing. Craig was always checking with us and providing up to date options for us in the uncertainty of weather and access to fishing and services. He does good at organizing and provision, but is also great hospitality. And not to forget, our fish cleaner Jaydon, she was helpful, friendly and well skilled at preserving our catch and helping us get it organized for travel. What an amazing group to work and enjoy this fishing adventure with. Blessings to all the crew! We will be returning whenever we get our own plans in working order and Yakutat Lodge will be our first call.

We ate two meals here while in Yakutat: lunch and dinner. Both were good, but the dinner was outstanding and as good as any you'd have anywhere! Fresh halibut cooked to perfection with mashed potatoes and vegetables. Thanks!

Hit the sockeye season with help from the Lodge. All the guides were fantastic: Mason, Mike, Luke were all really knowledgeable and help us catch more fish than I could have imagined. Food at the lodge was great, and everyone was helpful. Trip of a lifetime.

This is a hard review to write because Yakutat Lodge is geared up for fishing trips, which is not what I was there for. |The lodge is right by the airport (literally step out of the terminal into the lodge) which was really convenient for me. Should you want to go into the town, there is a local taxi that'll take you for $40 round trip- there's not much in Yakutat though!|My room was well decorated and clean with a decent shower, toiletries and lots of coffee. |There was no wardrobe or hanging rail for clothes though and the hot water pressure for the sinks was awful.|The reataurant/ bar on site is open pretty much all day and the food was really good, particularly the pulled pork burger. |The service in the restaurant let it down. The young guy in the evening was nice but rushed off his feet whilst the man serving at breakfast and lunch was the rudest man I've ever encountered and made me feel quite uncomfortable.|The guys in the office/ reception were all welcoming and helpful.|Price was decent for what it is.

Amazing place, friendly and knowledge staff. The "big house" cabin is beautiful and well kept with amazing views of the bay and mountains. Cody will take care of all of your needs, best fishing guides I have ever met. Make the trip and you will not regret is!

Incredible experience!!!! The staff at the lodge were a lot of fun and the guides were awesome. Had a great time with my family. Our Captain on the salt was Cody. One of the best guides I've ever had the pleasure of working with. He wouldn't take us to some of the deep holes that Jeff likes to frequent but he still made sure we had a great time and caught all the fish we could handle. He stepped up and helped us out on a river day when he didn't have to do it. Class act and an all around fantastic guy. Already trying to figure out how to get back out there.
