My son didn't want to learn how to play the piano but we placed him in to be with his little sister. We planned on staying but due to certain circumstances, we had to leave during the 7th month. My son has been asking when to go back to practice. He was so excited to be learning how to read music notes. Neil made the class fun for both my kids and they miss it every day.

Neil is a kind and patient teacher. My 8 year old son loves going to lessons and is eager to practice at home. He has been taking lessons for about a year now and I have been amazed at his progress. Neil has a unique teaching method that creates a relaxed environment where students practice and learn new songs at their lesson. This method has worked great for my son and has built his confidence & motivation to play. Also, the rescheduling policy is super flexible and easy to do on the Yosemite Music Maker student website. We've had a great experience overall at YMM!

I had high hopes for Neil and his piano instruction service for kids, spurred on by the glowing reviews I found on Google. However, my experience left me somewhat disheartened. Rather than hands-on guidance, Neil's approach seemed to rely heavily on children following instructions from an iPad-like device. While my son received a brief introduction to reading keys, subsequent lessons mainly consisted of following prompts on the device.

As we progressed, I had hoped for more direct instruction from Neil himself, especially as we ventured into more complex techniques like playing with both hands and learning music by ear. Instead, feedback often felt dismissive, with comments like "You don't have to do anything you don't want to" and "Why should I answer your question if you weren't listening the first time?" These remarks, in a setting meant for nurturing young learners, felt out of place and even intimidating.

After careful reflection following three sessions, it became apparent that Neil's passion might lean more towards the business side rather than genuine teaching. While I appreciate a firm hand in learning, the atmosphere felt more about business transactions than fostering a love for music in children. Consequently, I've decided to seek instruction elsewhere for my child.

In hindsight, perhaps my expectations were misplaced. If your child already possesses a solid foundation in piano, Neil's service may serve as a convenient supplement. However, for beginners seeking patient guidance and encouragement, exploring other options might be more beneficial.

My daughter had a wonderful experience learning piano with Neil. He's a gentle and patient teacher, which makes him very good with young kids. Collaborates with kids on what they'd like to learn and play, and encourages their creativity. Very flexible when it comes to scheduling. Much recommended!

I started adult piano lessons several months ago and highly recommend it to any adults (or children) interested in taking piano lessons. I had been saying I wanted to learn piano for 10 years and am so grateful to have finally started! The classes are engaging and fun covering piano technique and fundamentals to music theory and improv. It’s perfect for newbies or experienced players wanting to learn more. I am even amazed at how much the children of all ages seem to really love being there, even being inspired.

Neil Boyer’s expertise coupled with a great understanding of how to keep kids interested and growing has been a great blessing to our family. Our son has been going to Neil for lessons for many years. Neil senses when it’s time to entice him with a new piece of music or when to calm him down when he’s frustrated. His approach has always been so calm and understanding. He encourages the kids, challenges them and sees their potential. His communication with us as parents is always so helpful as well. We always know how to approach practice at home. We are so thankful to have found YMM.
